Editorial policy: sources, currency, corrections
How VCC Singapore decides what is true enough to publish, how each page is dated and reviewed, what we do when the rules change, and how we correct mistakes — with a public log of the material corrections we have made.
1. Sources
We work from the primary text first: MAS circulars, FAQs and media releases; IRAS e-Tax guides; ACRA guidance and the VCC Register; EDB factsheets; the Acts and subsidiary legislation on Singapore Statutes Online. Professional commentary (law and accounting firms) is used to confirm interpretation, never as the sole basis for a figure. Every page lists its sources. Where a primary source is unavailable at review time, the page says so and the figure is attributed to the secondary source that carried it.
2. Figures and the two tracks
Thresholds on this site are stated with the track they belong to. Since MAS demarcated the fund tax conditions into a commercial (non-SFO) track and a single-family-office track, a bare “13O minimum” is meaningless: the commercial minimum is S$5 million in designated investments at entry, the family-office minimum is S$20 million tested yearly. Pages that predate a rule change are updated to the new position or carry a dated note; we do not leave a superseded number standing as if current. Illustrative figures — costs, fee ranges, break-even arithmetic — are labelled as illustrative and their assumptions are shown.
3. Dates and review
Every page carries a currency date (“Current to …”) and the reviewing editor’s name and month of last review. A page is re-reviewed when its underlying rule changes, when a reader reports an error, and in a monthly sweep of the whole site for superseded figures. Structured data on each page (dates, FAQ text) is generated from the same source as the visible text so the two cannot drift.
4. Independence
No provider, partner or advertiser has editorial input. We carry no advertising, affiliate links or paid placements. Providers we introduce readers to are not named on the site and are never recommended on a page. How we earn is set out on the independence and referrals page.
5. Tools
Interactive tools apply published thresholds and illustrative cost ranges to the reader’s inputs. Each tool states its assumptions and sources, labels its output as indicative, and is reviewed by the editor whose remit it sits in. Tools do not replace advice from MAS, IRAS, EDB or a qualified adviser, and say so.
6. Corrections
Report an error to the editor named on the page or to start@vccsingapore.com with the page URL and the source you believe is correct. We acknowledge within one business day. Material corrections — a wrong threshold, date, track or figure — are fixed on the page and recorded below with the date. Typographical fixes are made silently.
Corrections log
| Date | What was corrected | Pages |
|---|---|---|
| 3 Sep 2026 | The VCC 2026 report page had reverted to pre-survey figures (S$6.07 trillion AUM, 2,695 sub-funds); restored to the MAS Asset Management Survey 2025 figures (S$6.7 trillion, 3,443 sub-funds). | /vcc-2026-report/ |
| 2 Sep 2026 | Ten pages carried a pre-circular label “S$5M · 13O minimum AUM (end of each FY)” without naming the track; relabelled to the two-track rule (non-SFO S$5M at entry, no annual re-test; SFO S$20M tested yearly). | family-office-singapore, family-office-tax-incentives-13o-13u, family-office-funds, section-13o, section-13oa-limited-partnership, do-eams-need-13o-13u-structure-for-clients, singapore-fund-tax-incentives, vcc-vs-unit-trust-limited-partnership, 13o-13u-2025-changes, exploring-differences…13o-and-section-13u |
| 2 Sep 2026 | The 13O/13U eligibility checker was rebuilt: the previous version applied single-track logic (S$5 million floor for all applicants, three professionals for 13U on every track). | /tools/13o-13u-eligibility-checker/ |
| 1 Sep 2026 | End-2024 survey figures (S$6.07 trillion, 1,200 VCCs, 2,695 sub-funds) updated to end-2025 (S$6.7 trillion, 1,406 VCCs, 3,443 sub-funds) on five pages; two legacy pages still stating “1,200 VCCs” as current were updated. | singapore-vcc-vs-luxembourg-2026, singapore-vcc-vs-gift-city-2026, umbrella-vcc-fund-platforms-2026, foreign-fund-manager-singapore-vcc, vcc-2026-report, the-vcc-structure, hedge-funds |
| 31 Aug 2026 | A research note used in the corridor matrix stated that Hong Kong’s family-office regime had no minimum AUM; corrected to the HK$240 million floor retained in the 2026 bill before publication. | docs (pre-publication) |
7. Chinese twins and machine readers
Chinese pages are translations of the English page by the same desk, paired by hreflang, and updated with it. Markdown twins of every page are served for AI assistants; they are generated from the published page, so they carry the same currency date and sources.

What counts as a primary source here?
MAS circulars, FAQs and releases; IRAS e-Tax guides; ACRA guidance and registers; EDB factsheets; and the Acts and regulations on Singapore Statutes Online. Law-firm and accounting-firm commentary is used to confirm interpretation, not as the basis for a figure.
Why does every threshold name a track?
Because MAS applies different conditions to commercial funds and to single-family-office funds under the same statute. The same words — “13O minimum” — mean S$5 million at entry on one track and S$20 million tested yearly on the other. A figure without its track is a figure that will be wrong for half of readers.
How fast are corrections made?
Acknowledged within one business day; material corrections are usually live the same day and logged on this page with the date and the pages affected.
Do you use software in producing the guides?
Yes, as a desk would: to check figures against the primary text, to sweep the site for superseded numbers, to keep structured data in step with the visible page, and to render diagrams. Editorial judgement — what to cover, what a rule means, what to warn about — is the editors’.
Can a provider pay to be recommended?
No. No page recommends a provider, and the providers we introduce readers to are not named on the site. See the independence and referrals page.
